Description: The online learning material contains: Learning bites - short pieces of interactive learning on how to use a variety of information sources (books, newspapers, journals, CD-ROMs and the web to name but a few) plus skills and techniques including planning, searching for information, finding and using information and evaluating that information. Scenarios/themes - interactive learning based around finding information about: Employment; Leisure; Research; Shopping and Travel. Each scenario has links to various learning bites that explain, reinforce and helps guide the learner through a variety of practical activities.

Objective: The information handling skills project was developed following extensive research to find learning material that exemplified the range of skills needed in today's information rich society. The projects aims and objectives were to develop online learning material that would: * involve use of information skills within a range of media (text-based, Internet, etc.) * produce online content developed on the principle of using interactive, multimedia elements to support the pedagogy * be generic but written in such a way as to include a wide range of topics and skills relevant to as wide an audience as possible * develop material as learning objects which would be IMS compliant and comply with accessibility standards (WC3 and Bobby) * be web deliverable * include writers (drawn from Secondary, FE, HE and Public Libraries), editors and technologists in the development team. The project partners included: Lead Partners: European Social Fund; learndirect scotland; Scottish Enterprise Glasgow; Scottish Further Education; Scottish Library and Information Council. Partners: City of Edinburgh School Library Services; Dundee City Council Communities Department; Glasgow Libraries, Information and Learning; Napier University; National Grid for Learning; Scottish Qualifications Authority. The Open University joined the group at a later stage.
