Communications in Information Literacy (CIL) is an independent, professional, refereed electronic journal dedicated to advancing knowledge, theory, and research in the area of information literacy. The journal is committed to the principles of information literacy as set forth by the Association of College and Research Libraries. CIL is also committed to the principles of open access for academic research.
First, we consider the Latin American challenges: inequalities, unstable politics, lack of formation of workers, poverty. Second, we discuss different concepts of society, focusing on Learning Society, that requires emancipated individuals that are lifelong learners because they are information literate. The next section detaches social sustainability as a consequence of sustainable development actions. In Latin American countries, the interest around information literacy and lifelong learning has been growing in recent years because of librarians�€™ initiatives. In conclusion, information literacy and lifelong learning emerge as fundamental factors for a sustainable development and the consolidation of democracy in Latin America.
Looks at the information literacy initiatives in Malaysia and proposes a framework for the implementation of a National Information Literacy Agenda (NILA).
Presents a proposal for the development of a generic tempalte-based prototype of a web-based information literacy course for undergraduates at the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology, University of Malaya, with the necessary contents. Once completed, the template can be used across the curriculum by all disciplines throughout the various public universities in Malaysia.
