LIMES Library and Information Management Employability Skills

Loughborough University

LIMES Library and Information Management Employability Skills is a major two year curriculum development project. LIMES is a partnership between Library and Information Science Departments at Loughborough University, University of the West of England, Bristol and Liverpool John Moores University. The Library and Information curriculum has changed and adapted as the diversity of employment opportunities for graduates has increased. There is now an even greater imperative for academic departments to make appropriate changes as the range of skills required by employers grows. Together with the traditional library and information skills, such as cataloguing and enquiry work, skills such as knowledge management, web development and negotiation are being demanded by employers.

SkillCity

The Australian government is funding this project in recognition of the need for development of students' communication skills to be incorporated consciously into the teaching of more lecturers. The SkillCity web site is part of a process to help lecturers rapidly access handouts, assignment guidelines, and plans for class activities. Flexible delivery of needed materials and approaches, peer reviews of such materials, and a support network of lecturers are key elements in assisting lecturers to develop new methods of teaching communication skills to their students.
